Do You Perceive It?
As God speaks to us through Isaiah “Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert”. (Is 43:18-19) This text was God’s hopeful, promising message to God’s people who were living in exile in Babylon as well as referencing the days of slavery in Egypt.
When we are in ‘foreign lands’, uncomfortable spaces and/or sensing change, it can be very unsettling. It can also be exciting. But for most of us, it is usually a combination of both. If you have been in worship recently you’ve no doubt noticed some of the changes we are making in worship and in fellowship activities. In January the leaders of this church along with Sherm, Lorri and myself have discerned that God is calling us to develop and grow new ways to worship, new ways to grow and develop disciples and new ways to share our faith journey with one another.
EVERY Sunday in June will be an opportunity to see, experience and participate in the new things God is doing in our midst. We are delighted to be bringing back Scout Sunday June 5th! This will be not only a celebration of the Cub Pack 201’s accomplishments over the last year (and their accomplishments have been stellar!) but also a time to reconnect and worship together at a time of year when Scout families of other faith traditions can be present with us in church.
Sunday June 12th is going to be a fun, faith-filled and celebration Sunday with our Pre-confirmation class sharing their worship talents and sermon! with us. We’ll also be honoring our graduating Sr’s and awarding the 2016 Lowther Scholarships. Immediately after worship we will all head to Reighart hall to begin HOLY JEOPARDY! This is our 2nd Intergenerational Event. We will be creating teams of 6, with all ages represented. We have prizes for the top 2 winning teams and we will end with make-your-own-Sundaes to finish!
Mark your calendars now!
Father’s day, June 19th (which always seems to get ignored ) will be a whole worship devoted to themes of Creation, caring for the planet in our Father’s/Mother’s world. We will also be dedicating our new ordinary time banners (which includes Presby Squirrel!) made by the Crozier ladies. Those rascals!
Then the BIG FINISH…June 26th. We will be worshipping in Reighart Hall and then building the set for VBS: EVEREST! Please wear comfortable clothes and be ready for another Intergenerational event that is an important and growing mission of this church. Please also do your best to register your own kids/grandkids for this event as well as seek out other children/families who need to know about this and the love and fellowship of Jesus Christ.
PLEASE, make every effort to make these services a priority in your life.
God is doing a new thing. If you’re not here, will you be able to perceive it?
Leading you in and through the wilderness for the sake of Jesus Christ,
