The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters; 3He restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for His name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff—they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.
The Psalm tells me that God takes care of me just as a shepherd takes care of his flock. He protects, corrects and guides. He provides rest and refreshment. He comforts and gives me inner peace and hope. He will always be with me.
I worked with two people to create and build a successful start-up business, and after 18 years they showed me the door. I was VERY angry with them. But a really good friend prayed with me and reminded me that God was in this. It took me a few days to calm down, and a few more days to realize that God had rescued me from a very toxic environment. Finally, after about ten days, I had an inner peace and an inner knowing that God was indeed in this.
Two weeks later I woke up thinking about a website. I went to the website where I found a job listing that I just knew was meant for me at this stage in my life. I have been thriving there ever since. God is truly amazing and proved to me that I should never lose hope. He does indeed protect, correct, guide, comfort, give inner peace, and provide everything I need.
It is awesome to think that Jesus also prayed this psalm. He put his hope in His Father because He knew He was with him, even when he went to the cross.
Loving God, remind me to never lose hope and to remember every day that you are my shepherd. Amen. ~Evelyn Thiel
